The household appliance has a circulating pump (13) that is provided for circulating wash liquid in washing container. A drain pump (19) is provided for draining the washing liquid from washing container. A control unit (23) is provided for controlling the drain pump. The drain pump is vented, after filling the washing container with washing liquid and before or during operation of circulation pump. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for controlling household appliance; and (2) computer program product for controlling household appliance.
