The invention provides an internal combustion engine in which the assembling and disassembling operation of a spark plug is not affected so as to be easily maintained even though an actuator and the spark plug of a variable valve transmission device are installed on a same outer sidewall of a cylinder cover. The front end portion of the spark plug (13) faces a combustion chamber. viewed from the direction of the cylinder axis, the axis (13a) of the spark plug (13) is inclined relative to the axis (22a) of a cam shaft (22) while not overlapping with a solenoid actuator (21). |
