A protective or carburizing furnace atmosphere is produced by injecting into the furnace chamber at a point remote from the fuel supply, either continuously or intermittently through one or more fine nozzles, a solution of lithium naphthenate in a hydrocarbon prepared as disclosed in Specification 703,994, [Group IV (b)]. The solution may be injected into the furnace through fuel pumps and injection nozzles of the type used with Diesel engines. Specification 635,380 also is referred to. |
