The package has a film enclosing polycrystalline silicon material in the form of fragments or round rods, where the film has thickness of about 10 to 1000 micrometer. The film is surrounded by another film e.g. air bubble film and ROLAMIT (RTM: cross-laminated film), having a reinforcing structure or by a shaping element. An oval or rectangular separating element is arranged between the films has thickness of about 0.1 to 5 mm. The films are welded together and inserted into a transport container comprising separating elements or cardboard boxes. An independent claim is also included for a method for packing polycrystalline silicon in the form of fragments or round rods.
