Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXII] An electric switch has a one-piece snap-action spring blade, with two spring parts 15, 16 acting as compression springs and arranged between stiffened parts 8, 9 supported at one end and connected together at the other end by a contact carrying portion, each of the stiffened parts having elastically extensible sections 10, 11, and a third stiffened part 13 serves as an actuating limb. The parts 8 and 9 are stiffened by bending their outer edges and the part 13 is stiffened by a depression 14. The blade is mounted on a U-shaped frame 6 so as to bow and place in compression the parts 15, 16. On depressing an operating member 5, Fig. 1, as soon as the free end of the part 13 is moved below the plane of the parts 8, 9, i.e. through the dead-centre position, the spring parts 15, 16 move the free ends of the parts 8, 9 upwardly to open the contacts 2, 7 with a snap action. The removal of the operating force permits the blade to return to its original position to close the contacts with a snap-action, though in a modification, the application of an operating force in the reverse direction is necessary to restore the spring blade. As the resultant forces in the plane of the parts 8, 9, varies, the shape of the extensible sections 10, 11 varies so that the contact 7 is "wiped" on the contact 2 and on the stop 4, which may serve as a further contact. |
