According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for improving efficiency of a charger comprises: a rectifier; a sensor which detects the input power generated from the rectifier; a controller which generates switching frequency signals having varying frequency with respect to the input power; and a convertor which performs switching by the switching frequency signals and converts the input power to the output power. In the present invention, the device and the method minimizes switching loss by varying the switching frequency of a power factor correction (PFC) convertor with respect to the amount of the input voltage and/or input current.
