Disclosed is a method to reduce rare earth elements. More specifically, the present invention provides a method capable of obtaining rare earth elements with a high recovery rate by recovering rare earth metals reduced from inside the fused salt. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method to reduce rare earth elements comprises: a step of manufacturing fused salt electrolytes by charging rare earth chlorides or chloride additives in an electrolytic bath; a step of reducing rare earth elements by applying electric energy to fused salt electrolytes; a step of removing an electrode from fused salt electrolytes wherein rare earth elements are reduced; a step of obtaining solidified substance by cooling and solidifying fused salt electrolytes from which an electrode is removed; a step of dissolving the solidified substance in a rare earth element selective solvent; and a step of separating and collecting rare earth elements in the solidified substance using a filter. |
