By combining a saturable absorber (2) with a transparent material (3) which is transparent to a laser oscillation wavelength or the like, a passively Q-switched element having a mode selection function and a passively Q-switched laser device in which a passively Q-switched element has a mode selection function, and a planar waveguide type passively Q-switched element and passively Q-switched laser device are provided. |

1. A planar waveguide type passively Q-switched element, comprising:
an additive-free transparent material having a planar shape; two saturable absorbers having a planar shape with a refractive index larger than a refractive index of the additive-free transparent material; and two cladding films having a refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the two saturable absorbers, wherein surfaces of the two saturable absorbers are respectively bonded optically to two surfaces of the additive-free transparent material, and wherein the two cladding films are respectively bonded optically to surfaces of the two saturable absorbers opposed to the surfaces bonded to the additive-free transparent material. |
