704,503. Grater for soap &c. RITTER, E. April 1, 1952 [April 4, 1951], No. 8218/52. Class 28(2) In apparatus for grating soap, cheese &c. by a rotated grating disc 12 against which the soap in a cylindrical container 4 is fed by a screw-actuated pusher 10 when the hand-wheel 16 is rotated, the soap is in the form of a block 5 with a central bore for the screw 9 and with side grooves 7 to accommodate the inwardly projecting ribs 6 of the container, which ribs prevent the pusher plate 10 from rotating and so allow it to be fed down by the screw 9. The disc 12 is formed with scrapers 13 and with radial discharge slots 14 from which the shavings fall through a discharge opening 19 in the hand-wheel 16. The screw 9 has saw tooth or interrupted threads to prevent clogging. To insert soap &c. the handwheel 16 (and attached grater and screw 9 and pusher 10) is pulled downwards after removal of a set-screw 20 gripping a resilient ring 18 so that the soap can be placed on the screw 9, the whole then being pushed up inside the container 4. To avoid the need for unscrewing upwards the pusher for replenishment of a soap block, the pusher may be made in halves, separable by finger pieces and drawn together by springs.
