PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection device which can suppress a rise of a trouble value received by an occupant by activating a pretensioner 25, and prohibiting the activation according to a collision status.SOLUTION: The occupant protection device comprises a door sensor 21 which detects the collision deformation of a side door DFL at a side face collision, and an occupant position sensor 24 which detects a waist position of an occupant. When it is determined that a collision rear end position of an intruded substance of the side door DFL is located ahead of the waist position of the occupant on the basis of a detection result of the door sensor 21 and a detection result of the occupant position sensor 24, the pretensioner 25 is activated, and when it is determined that the collision rear end position of the intruded substance is not located ahead of the waist position, the activation of the pretensioner 25 is prohibited. When there is an anxiety that a clearance becomes insufficient between the side door DFL which is deformed by a collision and the waist of the occupant, the movement of the occupant at an initial stage of a collision is permitted without activating the pretensioner 25, and the clearance between the side door DFL and the occupant can be secured.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
