PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting element which achieves light emission characteristics equivalent with a degree in the case of pure silver, and has excellent adhesion with a substrate, and where a reflection layer consisting primarily of silver is formed on a rear face of the substrate; and/or provide a light emitting device using the semiconductor light emitting element.SOLUTION: A semiconductor light emitting element comprises: a translucent substrate including a first principal surface and a second principal surface on the side opposite to the first principal surface; a semiconductor light emitting structure formed on the first principal surface; and a reflection layer which is formed on the second principal surface and consists primarily of silver. The reflection layer contains one and more metals selected from In, Mn, Al, Cu, Au, Sn, Zn, Ge and Co in a range of 0.1 mol%-1 mol%, and the above-mentioned metal causes segregation at a crystal grain boundary of silver.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
