PURPOSE: To provide a polarization dependent loss emulator, capable of configuring first and second unitary matrix generators with the least number of polarization rotation elements, which programmably generates only a wavelength dependent PDL without generating a PMD.SOLUTION: A polarization dependent loss emulator is configured by arranging a spectrum spectroscope 101, a first unitary matrix generator 103, a PDL generator 104, a second unitary matrix generator 105, and a spectrum multiplexer 107 in the order stated. With an input optical signal inputted thereto, the polarization dependent loss emulator generates an emulated optical signal having a polarization obstacle caused by a preset polarization dependent loss and outputs the generated signal. The first unitary matrix generator is configured by coupling a polarization rotation element for imparting rotation centering on the Saxis of the Stokes space and a polarization rotation element for imparting rotation centering on the Saxis in the order stated. In the second unitary matrix generator, the polarization rotation elements are disposed in the reverse order.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
