PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of attaining a compact small size and its low cost.SOLUTION: There are provided attenuation valves 147, 197 arranged in the first passages 101, 102 for restricting a flow of working fluid generated through motion of a piston 18 to generate attenuation force; and passage area adjusting mechanisms 91, 227 for use in adjusting a passage area of the second passages 32, 89 in response to a position of a piston rod 21 in such a way that it has at least the maximum length side characteristic in which an extension side attenuation force becomes a soft state and a shrinkage side attenuation force becomes a hard state at the first prescribed range where the piston rod 21 is extended out of the cylinder 2 rather than the maximum length side prescribed position. The passage area adjusting mechanism 227 causes the extension side attenuation force to become a hard state in the second prescribed range where the piston rod 21 is extended out of the first prescribed range to an outside of the cylinder 2.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
