PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image inverting prism that offers suppressed light transmittance loss and can be used to produce optical devices, such as binoculars, of slimmer shapes.SOLUTION: An inverting prism comprises an auxiliary prism and a Dach prism, which are made of optical glass having a refractive index ngreater than 1.56. The auxiliary prism has a first reflective surface configured to totally reflect incident light vertically entering an incident surface, a second reflective surface configured to totally reflect the light reflected by the first reflective surface, and an exit surface configured to output the light reflected by the second reflective surface in a direction perpendicular thereto. The Dach prism has a second incident surface configured in parallel with the exit surface to receive the light exiting the auxiliary prism, and a second exit surface configured in parallel with the incident surface to output the light that has entered the second incident surface and gone through internal reflection in a direction parallel to the incident light. The inverting prism is thus configured to vertically and laterally invert an image at the incident surface.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
