PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polymer having excellent surface hydrophilization effect, and showing excellent non-specific adsorption inhibitory effect, and a surface hydrophilizing agent comprising the polymer and a base material surface modification method using the polymer.SOLUTION: This invention provides a polymer having a hydrophilic repeating unit, the hydrophilic repeating unit having at least one hydroxy group and also having a sulfinyl group in the main chain.SELECTED DRAWING: None
