PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet thickness detecting device and a printer equipped with the sheet thickness detecting device in which sheet thickness detecting means can be arranged even in a bent portion of a sheet supply passage, and the arrangement space is not limited.SOLUTION: A sheet thickness detecting device 1 includes: a pressing member 2 for pressing an upper surface of a sheet P; a sheet thickness detecting lever 3 which is arranged with a space from the pressing member 2 along the direction (the arrow B direction) orthogonal to the sheet P supplying direction A and detects a height position of the upper surface of the sheet P by contacting the upper surface of the sheet P; and sheet thickness reading means 4 for detecting the thickness of the sheet P from the height position of the sheet P detected by the sheet thickness detecting lever 3. A shape of a tip to be a contact piece of the sheet thickness detecting lever 3 is formed so as to have the width decreased toward the tip.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
