The present invention relates to an image display device and a control method thereof capable of improving the remote voice recognition performance of the image display device considering the use environment. The device includes: an interface unit which receives fixed environment information about an installation space; a display unit which executes operation according to a voice command; and a control unit which removes preprocessing reverberation and adjusts the gain of a microphone for remote voice recognition using the fixed environment information about the installation space and the variable environment information about the self-measured watching distance of the image display device as variables.
