Systems and methods for joining together two or more in-line components such as rail (e.g. staircase rail) components or like structures are disclosed herein. The system includes two or more components, each having at least one spring-bolt attached thereto and received in a respective cavity of the components. The components are coupled to one another by interlocking of the spring bolts caused by relative rotation of the spring-bolts, and the components include inner and outer perimeters sized to form a substantially flush connection with no external signs of the coupling mechanism when the components are so coupled. |
