The invention relates to a coalescence element (30) of a separating device for separating a disperse phase from a continuous phase of a fluid, in particular for separating water from fuel in a fuel filter, which coalescence element comprises at least one coalescence medium (32) which is provided for the coalescence of the disperse phase contained in the fluid, wherein a fluid path (40) for the fluid between an inlet side (53) and an outlet side (51) passes through the coalescence medium (32). Furthermore, the coalescence element (30) comprises at least one hydrodynamic focusing element (34) which is provided for flow optimization of the fluid flow and which is arranged upstream of the coalescence medium (32) in a flow direction (41). Here, the focusing element (34) for the fluid flow has first regions (36) and second regions (38) which exhibit mutually different permeabilities to the fluid flow, wherein the permeability of the second regions (38) is at most half that of the first regions (36).
