In the heat processing method according to an embodiment of the present invention, a glass base plate (1) is placed atop a firing setter (2), as shown in FIG. 1a and FIG. 1b. Specifically, the upper surface (2a) of the setter (2) is smaller than the lower surface (1a) of the glass base plate (1), such that, throughout the periphery in a peripheral edge portion (1c) of the glass base plate (1), a non-contacting portion (1d) is formed, which does not contact the upper surface (2a) of the setter (2). Providing the non-contacting portion (1d) allows for a suppression of damage to an edge surface (1b) even when the setter (2) warps backward to the glass base plate (1) side.
