The present invention minimizes maintenance frequency when a low-cost storage apparatus is used. A storage apparatus is provided with a plurality of first storage devices, a plurality of second storage devices that have performance inferior relative to that of the first storage devices, and a controller. The controller is connected to an external storage apparatus provided with a plurality of third storage devices that are less reliable than the plurality of first storage devices and the plurality of second storage devices, and is connected to the plurality of first storage devices and the plurality of second storage devices. The controller: controls data movement between the plurality of first storage devices and the plurality of second storage devices on the basis of I/O frequency; and, when the total size of data, among the data stored in the plurality of second storage devices, that is stored for a prescribed period or more is greater than or equal to a predetermined size threshold, transmits the data stored for the prescribed period or more in the plurality of second storage devices to the external storage apparatus. |
