As the number of files archived in an optical disk library device increases, file management information (metadata) increases and, therefore, file management becomes complicated, with the result that it takes considerable time to access the desired file. The storage system according to the present invention records data, and is provided with a library device which records information on and reproduces information from a plurality of portable recording media, and a control unit which manages logical volumes established on the recording areas of the recording media and controls input/output processing on data input to and output from the recording media on the basis of access requests from hosts, wherein: the library device is provided with the plurality of portable recording media, a recording/reproducing unit which records data on and reproduces data from the recording media, a transfer unit which transfers a recording medium to the recording/reproducing unit, and a library processing unit which controls the recording/reproducing unit and the transfer unit; and the library processing unit controls the recording unit and the transfer unit so that input files and logical address information about the input files in a file system are recorded on a first logical volume configured from a recording medium, and so that storage destination information about the logical address information is grouped together on a directory basis as stub storage information and is recorded on a second logical volume configured from another recording medium. |
