A method for operating a computer assisted virtual reality assembly includes detecting a series of physical base positions and a corresponding series of physical head positions of a user. A computational device is programmed to process the physical base positions and physical head positions to produce corresponding virtual base positions and virtual head positions. The processing includes operating the computational device to apply a first scaling factor to components of the physical base positions and a second, or no, scaling factor to the physical head positions. The computational device then operates one or more imaging devices of the virtual reality assembly to present virtual images to the user based upon the virtual base positions and the virtual head positions. By applying different scaling factors to the head and base positions when scaling up movement from the physical to the virtual environment, undesirable user perceptions of body distortion may be avoided. |
