The invention relates to a cooking insert, in particular a colander-type cooking insert, comprising a cup-shaped recess (12) which delimits a wall area (14) and a base area (16), wherein the base area (16) comprises a flow guiding contour (26) having a plurality of edges (28, 30) which are inclined, at least in sections, with respect to a flat plane (36), wherein the flow guiding contour (26) comprises at least one first edge (28) with a first inclination orientation and one second edge (30) with a second inclination orientation opposite to the first inclination orientation, wherein the at least one first edge (28) is provided with at least one through-hole (32), and wherein the flow guiding contour (26) effects a defined flow direction if the cooking insert is arranged in boiling water.
