The invention relates to a method for synthesizing a polymer bearing one or more pendant hydroxyaryl groups comprising the reaction of a polymer bearing one or more pendant epoxide functions with a nucleophilic compound simultaneously bearing the hydroxyaryl group and bearing a nucleophilic function selected from the group formed by the primary amine function, the secondary amine function, the carboxylic acid function and the ionic form thereof. The invention also relates to the polymer, in particular an elastomer, derived from this method, and also to a rubber composition containing same.
