Provided are a map update system, a navigation device, and a server device. In this map update system, which updates map data for a navigation device on the basis of map data stored by a server device, the map data comprises section data corresponding to sections for a navigation map which has been divided into a plurality of sections, and management data that designates the section data that is consulted during rendering. This server device receives generation information for the map data which the navigation device is currently consulting, generates difference data for the difference between the map data of the generation corresponding to the received generation information and the map data of the newest generation, and delivers said difference data to the navigation device, and the navigation device, on the basis of the received difference data, updates the management data and section data corresponding to the difference data to generate updated management data and updated section data, and writes the updated data to a region that is different from the region in which the pre-update data is stored, wherein when rendering a section in which an update has taken place, the updated management data designates the updated section data.
