The present disclosure is related to the formulation of biodegradable edible coatings as a novel natural storage alternative to make it possible to lengthen the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. A polymethacrylate-based coating is disclosed, which is a highly resistant and biodegradable polymer used for the sustained release of active principles into which essential oil nanoparticles of Thymus vulgaris are incorporated, which is also a low cost product, a powerful antioxidant and a natural antimicrobial that significantly improves the quality and shelf life of the treated fruits and vegetables, since this coating is maintained for a longer period of time and released in a sustained manner. |
