Systems and methods for automatically detecting and identifying seismic wave features in seismic data are provided. In general, the systems and methods utilize a nonparametric time series classification method to detect seismic wave features that may otherwise be difficult to automatically identify in seismic data. Instead of building a model by estimating parameters from the seismic data, the data itself is used to define a trained model. The systems and methods described here provide the ability to detect and identify seismic wave features with reasonably fast and extremely accurate results without needing to compute parameters. |

1. A method for detecting and identifying a seismic wave feature in seismic data, the steps of the method comprising:
(a) providing a set of training data that represents a seismic wave feature of interest; (b) providing seismic data that includes seismic traces; (c) scaling the seismic data based on information contained in the seismic data; (d) computing a similarity score between the provided seismic data and the provided training data; (e) identifying a portion of the provided seismic data as containing a seismic wave feature of interest based on the computed similarity score; and (f) selecting the seismic wave feature of interest as occurring at a selected time point in the identified portion of the seismic data. |
