摘要 A quick connect adaptor for conveying data signals and power from a first electronic module to a second electronic module, where the two modules are detachable at the connector. The connector includes a bi-directionally connectable interface between a first male body part and a second female body part, wherein the parts may be coupled in either a right-handed or left-handed orientation relative to the long axis of the body, eliminating the need for checking alignment when making a connection. Connector orientation for coupling of power and data interconnections is not dictated by a form factor of the body parts. In a first embodiment, a magnetic coupling secures the first and second body parts in either of two rotational orientations so that the interface is smoothly mated with a tap in place, and disengaged with a gentle tug. In another embodiment, two electronic modules are joined by a yet further improvement of a connector interface, such that at least one electronic module of the interface includes a “smart sensor” for detecting the magnetic polarity of a bi-directionally connectable interface coupling during the docking process and a processor or logic gates that configure communications of solid state devices, subcircuitry and/or power so as to be correctly wired and fully functional when coupled in either rotational orientation. The magnetic sensor operates on proximity so as to configure the interface even before an electrical connection is made.

A quick connect adaptor for conveying power, data, or a combination of power and data, from a first electronic module to a second electronic module, which comprises: a) an electrical interface between a first male body part and a second female body part of said adaptor, wherein the interface between the body parts is adapted to enable equivalent electrical connectivity when the body parts are rotated 180 degrees on the long axis of the adaptor, wherein the long axis is perpendicular to the interface; and, b) a magnetic coupling that secures the first body part to the second body part so that the interface is smoothly mated and electrically connected with a tap and disengaged with a gentle tug.
