A maintenance apparatus (100) maintains a pipe under the sea. The maintenance apparatus (100) includes: a first grip device (10) that has a plurality of joints and includes a first grip portion (11) holding releasably a first portion of the pipe; a second grip device (20) that has a plurality of joints, includes a second grip portion (21) holding releasably a second portion of the pipe, and is movable relative to the first grip device (10); a maintenance device (30) that is mounted on at least one of the first grip device (10) and the second grip device (20) and is used for maintenance of the pipe; and a drive device (40) that drives the first grip device (10) and the second grip device (20) such that the first grip device (10) and at least portion of the second grip device (20) move relative to each other.
