This application discloses a mobile device which uses a first time division duplexing (TDD) communication link at the same time as a second TDD communication link. Crucially, one of the communication links transmits at the same time as the other is receiving. Preferably, they transmit on alternate time slots. The first and second communication links may have different radio frequencies from each other. Indeed, the invention may be used to provide TDD inter-band carrier-aggregation (See Fig. 9). Alternatively, each communication link may be associated with a different radio access technology (RAT), e.g. TD-SCDMA and LTE (See Figs. 7 and 8). One of the links may be used to deal with GSM paging communications (see Fig. 6). The invention may implement multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) diversity communication. In this implementation two antennas 1208b, 1208c may be used to receive downlink data at the same time as a third antenna 1208a is being used to transmit uplink data. |
