Method for using image information in portable terminal

A method is disclosed that uses image information stored in a portable terminal. The method includes: recognizing a face area from a displayed image, if a image information registration is selected; determining whether user information corresponding to the recognized face area exists; displaying, if the user information exists, the face area and the user information on the image; registering, if the user information does not exist, the user information; and displaying the face area and the registered user information on the image. A user can enjoy a variety of functions in a portable terminal using image information, such as identifying names, addresses, etc., from an image including other persons' faces displayed on the portable terminal.
