<PICT:0713184/III/1> <PICT:0713184/III/2> An extrustion welding device includes a tube terminating in a heated extrusion nozzle and adapted to receive a rod of theroplastic material or filler, without restriction as to length, and a feed device in direct engagement with the side of the rod through a lateral aperture in the tube. As shown in Fig. 1, the tube 1, mounted in a cylindrical sheath 8 attached to a handle 3, has an extrusion nozzle 1a surrounded by a heater coil 6 controlled by a micro-switch 7. A feed lever 10 is pivoted at the lower end of the handle 3, and urged away therefrom by a spring 9; to its upper end is pivoted a claw 11 which is urged by a spring into contact with a filler rod 2 which passes through a bifurcation in the lever 10 and down the tube 1 the latter being cut away at 1b to permit this. The rod may thus be fed intermittently by repeatedly gripping the handle 3 and feed lever 10. In the form shown in Fig. 2 an arm 13 is pivoted on a web member 12 attached to the handle 3, and carries a small electric motor 14 driving a ratchet wheel 16 through worm and spur gearing 15, a spring 17 pressing the ratchet wheel 16 into engagement with the filler rod 2. In this case the motor 14 is under the control of the micro-switch 7. In a further form, a tube, with an extension terminating in a gas nozzle, is mounted on the handle 3 just below the sheath 8; the tube and nozzle are lined with refractory material and provided with a heater coil controlled by the micro-switch 7, and enable heated inert gas, preferably nitrogen, to be played on the material being welded. Specification 653,184 is referred to.
|
