A system for classifying inputs from a plurality of input controls (14, 16, 18, 20, Figure 1) on a vehicle steering apparatus (10, Figure 1) includes a resistor ladder circuit 54 for measuring an output across a resistor ladder 56 and a data memory for storing pre-determined output data relating to each control. The system further comprises a processor 60 receiving a measured output from circuit 54, comparing the measured output with the predetermined output data, determining a corresponding pre-determined output indicating a control selection and monitoring and correcting for a difference between the measured output and the pre-determined output, compensating for ground shift, noise, resistor tolerances and drift. The predetermined output data comprises data relating to a plurality of voltage bands corresponding to controls on the steering apparatus, with an initial bandwidth, an initial central value and an offset for each band. Processor 60 corrects the offset value by applying a correction value dependent on the bandwidth of the associated voltage band. The output from resistor ladder 56 may optionally be debounced. |
