Class 38(I)] In order to facilitate the connection of conductors to the contacts of a multi-contact plug- and-socket connector, each contact and its corresponding lead are connected and the contact is then inserted into an insulating support I. The shank 10 of each contact and the part 11 of the hole in the support i are of elongated crosssection, the contact being pushed right through the hole, turned round 90 degrees, and pushed back into the part I2 of the hole where it is held by the engagement of the shank in recesses 8, 9. A second insulating support 2 locks the contacts in position. The insulating supports I, 2 carrying the pin contacts are then inserted in the body 2I of a plug connector having its socket-engaging end 22 a provided with three unequally-spaced keys 23 so that only one position of engagement with keyways 45 in the socket connector is possible. A rubber sealing ring 25 is positioned between a shoulder 24 and a securing ring 26 having tongues 27 which engage bayonet slots 46 in the corresponding socket connector, and a key on the support 2 engages a keyway in a shoulder 36 in the body 2I to locate the insulating supports. At the other end of the body a flexible sleeve 29 flanged at 3I is secured by a locking ring 28 which also secures a metal ring 32 and shell 34, receiving between them the screen of a screened cable. The insulating supports I, 2 carrying the socket contacts are inserted in a body 41 and located by corresponding key and keyway and are retained in the body by a spring clip 52, a loop 53 and the free ends 55 of which engage a hole 54 and a T-shaped slot respectively in the wall of the body 41 (Fig. 9).
