717,914. Reinforcing edges of sheet material. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., CAMERON, J. B., and ROBSON, J. July 9, 1952 [July 9, 1951], No. 16246/51. Class 42 (1). A reinforcing strip C is bonded to a sheet A of transparent plastic by placing the sheet on a board D marked with the required position of the strip, applying a protective layer E, e.g. of adhesive paper strip, to the sheet along one or each side of the position of strip C, applying strip C to sheet A with the interposition of suitable cement and clamping down with clamps F to squeeze out the excess, allowing the cement to bond the strip to the sheet before or after removing the protective layer E together with the excess cement, and thereafter removing the sheet and strip from board D. The cement may be set by the heating effect of electric elements G<1> disposed in insulating material G<2> in the board and covered with metal strips G<4>. When layer E is removed before bonding, a film of light oil is smeared on sheet A inside the boundary of strip C to prevent any further excess cement that may squeeze out of the joint from damaging the sheet. |
