Installation of a twin or duplex optical fibre cable 4 in optical fibre ducting (31, fig 5) is performed using a protective caddy or end cap or lid 30 which temporarily protects the duplex optical fibre cable 4. The duplex optical fibre cable 4 contains a pair of fibres 19 and a pair of optical fibre connector ferrules 12. The protective caddy 30 is in the form of an elongate body with aligned first and second receiving portions (41, 42, fig 7). The second receiving portion (42, fig 7) receives and holds the duplex optical fibre cable 4 and the first receiving portion (41, fig 7) has a pair of receptacles 51, 52 each for receiving one of the ferrules 12. In use the duplex optical fibre cables 19 and the ferrules 12 are protected during insertion of the protective caddy 30 and duplex optical fibre cable 4 into the length of ducting (31, fig 5). |
