The present invention relates to a display device and a method for driving the same, which can improve reliability through prevention of degradation of an element, can overcome a problem attributable to heat generation, can improve an ambient contrast ratio, and can reduce power consumption. The present invention relates to a display device comprising a panel, a sight detection unit, and a control unit. The panel displays an image. The sight detection unit detects a position of a line of sight of a user. The control unit operates in conjunction with the sight detection unit, and varies brightness of the panel in response to whether the user stares at the panel. |
