COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING GOUT COMPRISING CAFFEIC ACID PHENETHYL ESTER

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or health-aid food composition for preventing or treating gout, which comprises caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) as an active ingredient. More particularly, CAPE according to the present invention significantly reduces a level of increase in cytokines induced by urate (MSU) crystals, particularly suppresses production of IL-1β and inhibits activity of NLRP3 inflammasome, and thus is shown to inhibit inflammatory reaction induced by urate crystals. Therefore, CAPE according to the present invention can be useful for a pharmaceutical composition or health-aid food composition for preventing or treating gout resulting from inflammation induced by MSU crystals.
