According to an embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a coil gun protecting circuit comprising: a first magnetic field applying unit connected to an electricity storage unit, which applies stored voltage, and a switch to apply a magnetic field to a projectile; and a buffer unit connected in parallel to the first magnetic field applying unit, where a current flowing from the first magnetic field applying unit flows based on the self-inductance electromotive force generated in the first magnetic field applying unit. In addition, disclosed is a method to control a coil gun, comprising: a step of storing voltage in an electric condenser; a step of flowing a current in the first magnetic field applying unit connected to the electric condenser and the switch based on the voltage stored when the switch is turned on; a step of passing the projectile through the first magnetic field applying unit by a magnetic field applied from the first magnetic field applying unit; and a step of flowing a current in the buffer unit connected in parallel to the first magnetic field applying unit based on the self-inductance electromotive force generated in the first magnetic field applying unit. The present invention protects a device included in a coil gun from an overcurrent as the current change volume per unit time increases in the coil gun. |
