The present invention relates to a method for operating a display device, in which image display reference coordinates are transferred from a random initial starting point in a shift pattern when power is supplied, thereby having an improved after-image reduction effect. The method for operating a display device comprises the steps of: initializing image display reference coordinates to random coordinates of coordinates included in a shift pattern when power is supplied to a display device; transferring the image display reference coordinates from the random coordinates along the shift pattern; and displaying, by the display device, an input image on a display panel based on the image display reference coordinates.
