The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling a vehicle. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling a vehicle to detect a speed bump on a road surface and to control the vehicle to reduce an impact applied to the vehicle. More specifically, the apparatus of the present invention comprises: an image receiving unit for acquiring an image of the road surface from an imaging unit; a speed bump detecting unit to, based on the brightness change pattern of one or more columns composing the image, determine if there is a speed bump; an information calculating unit to, when it is determined that there is a speed bump, calculate the position information, height information, and width information of the speed bump using the image; a control section entrance determining unit to, based on one or more pieces of information of the speed information, position information, and yaw rate information of the vehicle and one or more pieces of information among the position information, height information, and width information of the speed bump, determine if the vehicle has entered the control section for passing by the speed bump; and a speed control unit to, when it is determined that the vehicle has entered the control section, control the speed of the vehicle. |
