The method involves determining adjustment of a heat engine (1) according to a set of temperature values respectively relating to temperature (Text) of outer air admitted inside a heating, ventilating and/or air-conditioning installation (2) and temperature (Tmot) of coolant circulating inside a cooling circuit (11) of the heat engine. The engine is operated according to three adjustments that are determined based on the set of values. The engine is operated according to one of the adjustments when the engine efficiency is nominal.
