This invention relates to quaternary ammonium compound for use as an inhibitor of protein kinase C alpha, of formula (I) wherein: R1 is selected from the group of alkyl, alkene, aryl or alkylaryl group; preferably R1 is a benzyl, alkylbenzyl or alkylphenyl group; more preferably benzyl or methylphenyl group; optionally substituted by hydroxyl, oxo, nitro, amido, carboxy, amino, cyano, alkoxy, alkyl, alkene, alkyne, ester or heteroalkyl group; R2 is an alkyl chain comprising at least 12 carbon atoms; preferably comprising 14, 16 or 18 carbon atoms; R3 or R4 are identical or different and each is selected from an alkyl chain; preferably a C1-C4 alkyl chain; more preferably is methyl group; X- is selected from an anion of a pharmaceutically acceptable acid or from halo group; preferably X- is selected from halo group; more preferably is Cl- or Br-. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of a long-chain quaternary ammonium of formula (I) as a wound healing and/or an anti-inflammatory agent for use in the treatment of eye conditions. |
