An obstacle detection device for vehicles is equipped with: a first probing wave sensor (10A) for transmitting a probing wave, receiving a reflected wave produced by reflection by an obstacle of the probing wave, detecting a direct wave distance equal to the distance to the obstacle, and installed in a vehicle; a second probing wave sensor (10B) for receiving the reflected wave and detecting an indirect wave distance equal to the distance to the obstacle; a proximity determination unit (26) for determining whether the obstacle is between the first probing wave sensor and the second probing wave sensor, and whether the obstacle is approaching the vehicle, on the basis of the indirect wave distance; and a distance determination unit (28) for, when determined by the proximity determination unit that the obstacle is between the first probing wave sensor and the second probing wave sensor and is approaching the vehicle, setting the obstacle distance to be used in driving assist control to a distance no greater than a pre-set distance range, when the indirect wave distance falls outside the pre-set distance range. |
