[Also in Group XIII] In a tar &c. separator of the type in which the liquid-bearing gases pass through two pairs of spaced tubular screens having non-registering perforations and forming the circumferential wall of a drum mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and partly immersed in liquid, the front end plate 9 of the drum has apertures 21 communicating with the annular space 13 between the pairs of screens 11, 12. By means of a fixed arcuate channel 23 containing packing material which overlies ribs 19, 20, upstanding from the end plate, gas which enters the drum through apertures 16 in the end plate is prevented from by-passing the outer pair of screens. Liquid deposited in the annular space trickles down to the lower part and escapes through the exposed apertures beneath the liquid. Steam or solvent vapour may be admitted into space 13 through a nozzle 28 at the top of the sealing member. |
