PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce energy loss in a series hybrid vehicle.SOLUTION: For a mode transition between a first drive mode in which electric power is supplied to a motor 24 from a generator 12 through a battery 16 and a second drive mode in which electric power is directly supplied to the motor 24 from the generator 12 in a series hybrid vehicle, a prescribed efficiency threshold value in the second drive mode which is more efficient than the first drive mode is defined as a mode transition condition. After electric characteristics are synchronized between the generator 12 and the motor 24, a plurality of switches 25 and 27 of a switch box 21 arranged between the generator 12 and the motor 24 are closed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2a
