The purpose of the present invention is to provide a resin which imparts high smoothness to the pixels of a color filter or to a protective film for the pixels and which, in the case of forming a protective film on pixels or in the case of further applying a coating material on a protective film, is capable of providing either a composition for forming the protective film or a composition that enables the coating material to be satisfactorily applied. The resin is a heat-decomposable fluororesin which comprises a main chain (a) having the structure of a polymer of a polymerizable monomer and a side chain (b) having a functional group represented by the following general formula (1): [wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each a hydrogen atom or a C1-18 organic group; R4 is a fluoroalkyl group or a poly(perfluoroalkylene ether) chain; and Y1 is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom].
