摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome a situation that a brightness spot gets more liable to occur at a farther distance from the center of a display surface of an image display device, in which image light sources and lenses are combined and arrayed, and thus degrades the definition of a display image.SOLUTION: An image display device includes a light source unit that has plural combinations of a first image light source, which emits image light of a first image, and a second image light source, which emits image light of a second image, arranged on a planar basis, a lens array that has plural lenses, which are associated with the combinations of the first and second image light sources, arranged on its surface, and a spatial light modulation panel that modulates light, which is emitted from the lens array, along with lighting of the first and second image light sources on the basis of an image signal of the first or second image. The image display device has such optical characteristics that each of the lenses of the lens array confines a difference in the density of light, which comes from the light source unit to the lens, to a predetermined range on an incident surface, that emitted light is substantially parallel light, and that the orientation of the emitted light varies depending on a position on the surface of the lens array.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
