1. A low-profile card reader, comprising:
a housing defining a card opening and a card insertion vector; a carriage arranged within the housing; a single support arm, comprising:
a first end statically mounted to the carriage;a second end, free from the carriage and arranged proximal the card opening;a body tapering from the second end toward the first end, wherein the body is free from the carriage, such that the support arm freely deflects along a support arm length relative to the carriage, wherein the body is arranged with the support arm length substantially parallel the card insertion vector; anda set of strengthening channels extending along the support arm length, each strengthening channel comprising an opening defined along a broad face of the body proximal the carriage; and a magnetic reading head statically connected to the second end of the support arm, wherein the magnetic reading head abuts the card opening along an edge distal the first end of the support arm.
